Nimai, on life after Austin: “I left because I was too satisfied and comfortable. …I thought, ‘Man, I don’t wanna be satisfied and complacent yet. I need to be challenged. I need to be scared and not—comfortable.’ And that’s why I moved to New York! [on living in New York] It’s really challenging every day. It’s really different every day. There’s a lot of struggling, but it all makes you love New York that much more. Because you get a sense of pride for surviving. If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. There’s no place like New York. It’s really cliché, but it all rings really true.”
Taraka: “I feel like… it’s not mutually exclusive because yeah, there’s no place like New York, but there’s also every place in New York. Every place has their little communities, their little islands. It’s kind of cool—to see people in their microcosms. That’s something really holographic about it. Anywhere you slice New York, it’s kind of like a whole comprised in each of the parts and each of the parts is comprised by a whole. I don’t know! It’s a very holographic city—I like that.”
