Another day, another luxury building opens in Williamsburg. And what’s that I hear? The apartments are all ridiculously expensive? No! I don’t believe it! It’s not like we live in a borough where people call old ladders “upcycled shelving units” and sell them on Craigslist for $400 or anything. Oh, we do live in that kind of borough? Cool.
Over on Gothamist, in an article about 50 North 5th (“Williamsburg’s newest luxury rental complex”), readers get a thorough look inside this brand new development, and are able to marvel over what exactly the bathroom of a $2,700/month studio looks like. Now, sure, these photos might seem like simple promotional images, designed to provoke awe and envy at how some people get to live. But to me, these photos (or, at least, some of them) say so much more then what is immediately apparent. These photos speak to the time we live in now, a time of rapacious development and sky-rocketing rents and, uh, statement wallpaper. Anyway, let’s take a look.
