The Perfect Prospect Park Walking Tour
Keep going and you’ll see the rustic-looking Music Grove Bridge. Cross it and follow that path.
You’ll walk into what’s called the Midwood (first crossing Center Drive), the large wooded section in the middle of the park. You could wander around a little and get lost if you want, or follow my advice for a quick trip through.
Stay on the upward-climbing path you’re on until, on your left, you see this bridge, known as Boulder Bridge. Cross it. Look how high up you are! Below you is the Bridle Path.
On the other end, you’ll notice this small log bench. It always serves as a landmark for me, reminding me that I know where I am. Go down that path on the left, down a staircase, and keep bearing to your right. You’ll eventually descend through the Midwood, with a view of the Ravine below.
I took the rest of the photos for this piece on a camera I then lost that evening. Rather than leave you stranded in the Midwood, I can try to talk you through the end. Follow this path down to the end. You’ll be let out at the Long Meadow, but instead of getting out, make a left, and you’ll go down a long trail behind two small bodies of water. About halfway through, on the distant shore, you’ll be able to see the popular Dog Beach, where dogs can wade through a shallow pond. Eventually you’ll come to a fork: bear right, and you’ll cross a small bridge, and see a small waterfall (Fallkill Falls) in the near-distance. Pretty! Several more yards and you’ll be on the Long Meadow with the Dog Beach on your right. You can go left, walking along the Meadow, and wind up back where we started. Or head straight and get out of the park through Ninth Street. Or sit down and relax. What’s your hurry?
