C O L L E C T I O N S Brings Hand-Selected Vintage To Bushwick
“When my friends ask to come thrifting with me, they don’t always realize that it’s serious work,” Lucyann Wheeless explains, laughing. “After a hour, they’re tired and ready to go home.” And as anyone who’s even casually looked for vintage pieces can tell you, real digging takes time, a sharp eye, and a surprising amount of stamina. All of which pays off when the end game is a selection as lovingly put together as the one Wheeless has set up at C O L L E C T I O N S, her newly opened vintage shop just off the Morgan Ave. L stop (and right down the street from neighborhood staple Storefront Bushwick).
A short walk away from the hub of thrift stores surrounding Urban Jungle, the store is made up of the kind of carefully chosen pieces (ranging from a $12 sale rack to $200 designer finds, including menswear and an impressive, bright array of swimwear) that have dotted Williamsburg vintage stores for years, but are just starting to take hold in Bushwick. “I was a little nervous about opening up out here, but the reception has been amazing,” said Wheeless, a North Carolina native who just moved into an apartment nearby after settling on the store’s location, which formerly housed a neighborhood barbershop.
On the heels of an early launch during Bushwick Open Studios (during which Wheeless used her walls to showcase local artists), the store is throwing an official kickoff party this Sunday from 5pm to 10pm with drinks, music, and a relaxed BYOB policy. All of which, we think, are more than enough incentive to stop in and do a little shopping this weekend.
