How to Fucking Recycle in NYC
Plastic
Here’s a good rule of thumb for recycling in New York City: most plastic cannot be recycled. Shrink wrap from your DVDs and new board games? No. Yogurt cups and tofu containers? Nope. The plastic containers that Chinese food sometimes comes in? Nuh-uh—though those are the sorts of things you can reuse, eh? Essentially, you can only recycle plastic bottles and jugs—those with the number 1 or 2 inside the little recycling icon printed on the bottom. (This does not mean that any plastic with a 1 or 2 is recyclable in NYC.) If you were really committed, you could save all your plastics, separate them by type, and bring them to the Park Slope Food Coop. But we won’t fault you if you don’t, so long as you recycle properly at home. Oh, and plastic caps? Unscrew them and throw them away. [photo]
