Inside Mauro Remiddi’s Greenpoint Apartment
Remiddi’s other obsessions are plentiful and strong. A tiny praying teddy bear is a source of endless amusement. Whale calls fascinate him and you can hear their influence all over his debut album, Strange Weekend. His obsession with whale in particular led him to have his marriage vows taped into and read from a bible-sized volume of Moby Dick.
Remiddi seems to be taking well to Brooklyn. He has found his “favorite store in the world, ever” Control, where he geeks out over modular synths. And he’s enjoying setting up home with Emma and taking care of their space together. “But we almost broke up over this couch,” he jokes, describing the struggle it was to move from the vintage store and into their railroad apartment.
These days Remiddi is hard at work on the songs for his next album, which he’ll soon be recording. While many describe Strange Weekend as having a dreamy quality to it, Remiddi sees it as coming from a place of having just woken up. (He recorded it shortly after the international move and falling so suddenly in love.) The next one, though, will come from a more stable place. “Being awake,” he says.
