Which NYC MFA Program Is Right For You?
NYU’s writing MFA program, both in creative writing and poetry, has rapidly grown in esteem the past few years. This is due in no small part to the incredibly impressive faculty that NYU boasts. The fiction program has such notable writers as Zadie Smith, E.L. Doctorow, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Lorrie Moore (of those writers, only Moore possesses an MFA, from Cornell University.) The poetry program is similarly well stocked with the poets Charles Simic, Ann Carson, Sharon Olds, and Meghan O’Rourke (of those writers, only O’Rourke has an MFA, from Warren Wilson College.) Class sizes are large and funding is hard to come by, but the program has a light enough class load that students don’t need to struggle to find time to write.
