Jack Daniel’s 163rd Birthday Was This Week, Here’s How To Celebrate This Weekend
Stage An Evan Williams Taste Test
Speculation has long run rampant about which of these identically-bottled Tennessee whiskeys copied the branding of the other, and it’s still unclear.
Some camps claim that Evan Williams was the first to slap on a black label with reference to its 7 year aging, and that Jack Daniel’s jumped on the bandwagon after the fact.
Other say that way back when, the folks at Williams copied the JD label, banking on the fact that (frequently illiterate) liquor store patrons would recognize the look of a brand they liked, and grab the cheaper version.
The details are probably lost to history. But you, the consumer, can decide where your loyalties lie with a good ‘ol fashioned ad hoc taste test. Think of it like the Pepsi challenge. For drunks!
