Back to School: 6 Ways to Recapture that Old Fall Feeling
Passing Notes in Class
I was reminded of note-passing the other day as I was Skyping my co-worker, who is precisely five feet away from me at all times. Note-passing was fun. There were no cell phones when I was in middle-school and only the kids who wanted everyone to think they were drug dealers had beepers. The beeper kids would always jump away from their Bunsen burners when their pockets started buzzing and rush out to the nearest payphone to return their mom’s calls. So that wasn’t cool at all. What was cool was writing elaborate notes with funny illustrations involving boobs or penises or BOTH and folding them up into super, super tiny squares before passing them when the teacher turned away.
I wish I could suggest starting up that trend again but, let’s face it, Skype and GChat and texting are all much, much easier. However, I do suggest getting some of the writing supplies that Brooklyn stores like Lion In the Sun and Brook Farm General Store have to offer. Then, write your grandmother a letter. She’ll love that. Just don’t include too much about boobs or penises. Or maybe do? I don’t know your grandma.
