A Brooklyn-Born Necklace That’s Illegal to Wear

The first thing you need to know about In God We Trust’s collaboration with Oklahoma knife-maker Gene Wiseman is that it comes with a warning. “New York customers please note: It’s technically illegal to walk around with a visible knife, so be sure to come off extra angelic,” reads the description on Kaufmann Mercantile’s website, which has the exclusive on the piece.
The second thing you need to know about this two-and-a-half-inch pocketknife dangling from a dainty brass chain is that each necklace is a labor of love. The blade alone takes Wiseman two days to make, while the soldered and oxidized chain was made by the Brooklyn-based clothing and accessories label in New York.
The third thing you need to know about this is that it’s really cool. Why wear your brass knuckle-aping rings when you could don something that’s not just artisanal (Brooklyn buzz word alert!) but bad-ass as well? That’s what we thought.
