Immerse Yourself With Free Beer in Bushwick Tomorrow
Tomorrow, Brooklyn Brewery and Brooklyn Based are teaming up for the next installment of their neighborhood “immersion” series. Having visited Astoria, Red Hook, and Bedford Hill already this spring and summer, this will be the final Immersion event for the year. The event involves picking up a Willy Wonka-esque card at one of two locations by noon, which will grant you free bottles of Brooklyn Brewery beers at nearby restaurants and bars, and discounts at other neighborhood businesses. It’s all taking place in Bushwick this time around.
The parties, freebies and perks are being offered by places like Tandem Bar, Roberta’s Pizza, Northeast Kingdom, Arepera Guacuco, and Brooklyn Yarn Cafe, among other local businesses. The entire list is testament to a growing (and increasingly fancy) yield of eateries in this once remote, industrial neighborhood, which felt a little like the Northeast Kingdom itself five years ago. But with long waits for dinner tables at these “destination” dining spots, the event’s organizers hope the “Immersion” will allow the opportunity for Brooklyn locals to romp around their neighborhood on the cheap, not just lure more tourists to it.
“Bushwick is a perfect Immersion spot because it has such an awesome combination of newer spots like Tradesman and Miles and old faves like Tandem and PIne Box Rock Shop,” said Annaliese Griffin, of Brooklyn Based.
It’s pretty hard to see hipsters scratching their beards trying to solve the hidden “clues” about where to hit up next on the Immersion cards. But the discounts should be well worth its while for a casual romp around town. Rather than an organized crawl, the Bushwick Immersion allows you to meander the recommended spots over the course of the day. There’s also a flea market taking place at Onderdonk House on Saturday. If the all-day activities aren’t too exhausting, there’s an after-party at Tandem, which doesn’t require a golden ticket to enter. The party goes from 4pm to midnight, and includes a photo booth and $3 Brooklyn Brewery beers until 6pm.
