Backstage with the Best-Dressed Bands at Northside
Don’t stand too close to the stage at the Grass Widow show if you notice drummer Lillian Maring going barefoot. “I need to wear a certain kind of shoe when I’m playing the drums—if I’m wearing heels, I need to take them off. There was a show that we played a month ago where I took my shoes off and my feet were just totally beat-up [by the end of it],” she says, grimacing. “I won’t go into any more detail, it was gross,” she adds, but her bandmate Raven Mahon would: “There was blood splattering! There was, like, a toe across the room.”
