Legendary Moscot’s Comes to Brooklyn
Hyman Moscot sold spectacles from a pushcart on the Lower East Side for years before he opened his brick-and-mortar optical establishment. Over the course of four generations, the family business grew to become an iconic Orchard Street eyewear shop, and has been in the vanguard of a certain thick-framed, hipster-nerd approach to glasses. In addition to their shop near Union Square, opened in the 1990s, the family opened a third outpost on Court Street in February—“bringing the family story full circle,” a sign in the new shop reads, “as the third generation Moscots were born and raised just down the way.” The new store’s tin ceilings and exposed brick align nicely with the company’s retro-chic aesthetic.
