The Gentlemen of Summer
Cricket players are all over Brooklyn: Joseph O’Neill says they’re out in Floyd Bennett Field, Siri Hustvedt told us they’re in Prospect Park; one editor here spotted four gas-station attendants playing tin-can cricket at 5 a.m. by the BQE, another spotted some, in white outfits and all, in Marine Park, off Avenue U. Indeed, the Marine Park sports field, bordered to the north by Fillmore Avenue, is one of three official playing fields for the Brooklyn Cricket League; the others are in Canarsie Beach Park, at Seaview and East 92nd, and Spring Creek Park, on Gateway Drive. For a little elegance (and no spitting), give yourself over to the Zen art of watching an entire cricket match.
