We hadn't heard much from Ben Schneider's Lord Huron since his Mighty EP threw a lot of critics for a loop toward the end of 2010, its bongo drums, maracas and other percussion swimming in the same sphere as open-road roots music. For something simultaneously evoking Animal Collective and Fleet Foxes, it went bizarrely under the radar. Then came the release of his first proper LP Lonesome Dreams late last year, and, bam, here we have a sold-out show at Webster Hall. That's more like it. SOLD OUT

Alejandro Rose-Garcia is probably most recognized as “The Swede” responsible for luring Julie’s heart on the second season of Friday Night Lights. This is convenient because his one-man band Shakey Graves is proudly, unarguably Texan. Texas forever, they say. His fingerpicking and stomps take on the grizzled weight of the Old West, but they can also expand into balladry aligned with (true Swede) The Tallest Man on Earth. In either scenario, he’s a fierce contrast to all the digitally driven bands du jour. SOLD OUT
Based on the life and work of Lewis Carroll and his disturbing relationship with Alice Liddell, the young girl he loved and for whom he wrote Alice in Wonderland, this is the opposite of passive theatergoing: it's a real adventure through the proverbial looking-glass. Performed in a 100-year-old institutional building that has been dressed to look and feel like an old asylum, crammed with all kinds of creepy Carroll ephemera, it viscerally arrives at is the awful standoff between a little girl and an older man who loved her inappropriately and made something beautiful for her to salve his pain—and also to ensnare her forever. It gets across the full horror of what that meant for her, and also what that means for us. $95-$125
