Southern Brooklyn's Republican State Senator Marty Golden knows that many young women in his district are unemployed—even though they're college-educated!—so he's hosting an event to teach them some skills that'll help them find a job: how to "sit, stand and walk like a model," "walk up and down a stair elegantly," and "distinguish between American and Continental rules governing handshakes and introductions." This is for real, City and State reports. The event, called "The Polished Professional," promises to instruct women on "21st century business etiquette and social protocol."

Reaction has been fierce, from bloggers ("regressive and wasteful") and fellow politicians like Democratic State Senator Liz Krueger. Golden's opponent in the fall, Andrew Gounardes, was quick to pounce as well, saying through a spokesperson that "if Golden wants to do something meaningful for women... he should advocate for the State Fair Pay Act," the Bay Ridge Journal reports. Or, you know, affordable childcare. Or at least teach something like resume preparation and interviewing skills.
