For four years in a row, Macy's has hosted its fireworks spectacular on the Hudson River instead of the East River, thus robbing certain Brooklynites (and Queens residents!) of a view of the show they'd enjoyed for the previous 33 years and giving it to the people of New Jersey. Now a few politicians are saying enough is enough! State Senator Daniel Squadron and Councilmember Steve Levin held a rally
about the matter in April, and now Squadron, Public Advocate Bill DeBlasio and Borough President Marty Markowitz have begun an on-line petition urging the department store to "Bring the fireworks back to the East River so everyone can enjoy the show,” the Brooklyn Heights Blog reports
. You can sign it here
While we're at it, let's start a petition to rename the East River! After all, it's not to my east!
