Is J. Crew Coming to Williamsburg?

Well, it's been a good run, but it looks like "the man" is finally bringing "corporate culture" to the formerly pristine underground hamlet that is Williamsburg. That's right, the neighborhood might be getting its very own branch of J. Crew.

Reportedly, the preppy-staple-super-store is a possible tenant for a recently available retail space at Bedford and North 3rd. The property is owned by the same company that recently sold space in the neighborhood to Whole Foods, which plans to open a branch sometime in 2014.

Now, if you're particularly anti-Crew you could just choose to ignore the whole thing, but guys, this place is going to be huge. Retail spaces in the building range from 1,000 to 6,000 square feet, and one of the space's brokers said, "There really isn't anything else on Bedford that offers that much space."

In that case, maybe best to make peace with our crisp, classically tailored new neighbors?
