A New Literary Brooklyn?
WE THINK WE CAN ALL AGREE it’s time to break free of the Brooklyn-lit stereotype, and two books we love which have done just that are Mark Chiusano’s debut story collection, Marine Park, and Anya Ulinich’s graphic novel, Lena Finkle’s Magic Barrel. Both authors take us on journeys to places not usually explored in Brooklyn lit (and, no, we don’t just mean Bensonhurst, though also, we mean Bensonhurst), thus contributing to a long tradition of great Brooklyn writers that don’t just try to capitalize on “Brooklyn as trend.” More, please.
