Holiday Gift Guide 2013: A Little Something for Everyone In Your Life
There are some people in your life who you just want or even need to splurge on. Here’s how we would spend a lot of money on our loved ones. If we, you know, had a lot of money. Or deserving loved ones.
Dinner for Two at the Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare: $255 per person plus tax and tip In a borough of excellent, acclaimed (and expensive!) restaurants, the Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare stands out for being one of the best (it’s BK’s only 3 starred Michelin spot), one of the hardest to get into (reservations are taken 6 weeks in advance), and one of the most expensive. This is a splurge, but whoever you give it to will be praising your name as they finish off each of their perfectly prepared 20 courses.
A Trip to Paris, Sorta: prices vary
(roughly 60,000 – 90,000 miles)
(roughly 60,000 – 90,000 miles)
Nearly every major airline offers the option of gifting frequent flier miles and/or transferring them from your account to someone else’s. It may not be enough to get your loved one to Paris/Tokyo/Sydney/wherever their heart’s desire, but it’s a start. Oh, hey, if you’re rich, you can also just spring for the actual trip to Paris. Ooh, la la, etc.
Gift Card to Flyrite Tattoo:
average tattoo starts at around $100
In the words of Tom Haverford, “Love fades away, but things–things are forever.” Coincidentally, so are tattoos, which can also be quite expensive.
Britten Double Zip Bag by Marlow Goods in Forest Green:$386
Made out of the hides of the same grass-fed cows
that later grace the tables of restaurants Marlow & Sons, Reynard, Diner, and Roman’s, the bags made by Marlow Goods are emblematic of Brooklyn style. And that forest green color is to die for.

Line Diamond Chain Ring by Scosha:$1,650
We love all of Scosha’s jewelry, and would recommend a variety of pieces as gifts. But if you want to splurge on someone, do it with this spectacular ring that mixes delicate gold chains with a substantial base and flecks of perfect, tiny diamonds.
Mitsou: Quarante Images par Baltusz:$6,000
One of the best things we’ve seen all year was “Girls and Cats,” the Balthus exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. While a Balthus painting is even more of a splurge, this book is still a worthy big gift for someone special. This book—published with the help
of no less a person than Rainer Maria Rilke—was the artist’s first (published when he was just 13), and is the true story of his runaway cat. Perfection in a gift.
