Look Harder: Good Art Things to See This Week
- This is a weekly, mostly Brooklyn-based compendium of art happenings.

VICTOR + MO: STORIES OF SHADOWS—ADRIENNE ELISE TARVER
In this two-part solo show (the second part is planned for February) Adrienne continues her navigation of Vera Otis, an elegant, mysterious woman with fantastic posture who loves sunglasses and expensive furniture. Vera always seems to be alone, if she’s there at all; Adrienne films her house (eight videos will loop throughout the gallery) and displays portions of it (miniature dioramas) for our voyeuristic pleasure.
Opening Friday, December 9 6:00PM — 9:00PM, exhibition open though December 18.

MOTEL GALLERY: UNDER ALL THIS DIRT THE FLOOR IS REALLY VERY CLEAN
Death! Dirt! This group show (including Michael Assiff, Corin Hewitt, Tatiana Kronberg, Natalie Labriola, and Em Rooney) promises artifacts, memories, and a trace of terror. Even if you can’t make it to the show, read their statement: in a world of gallery releases that read more like Ikea manuals than introductions to art, this one is a joy.
Opening Saturday, December 10 7:00PM — 10:00PM, exhibition open through January 15, 2017.

FASTNET: AT CAPACITY — JAMES ENGLISH LEARY, CHRISTINA LEUNG, ANDREW ROSS
Curating a container isn’t easy, especially when you’re competing with the sexy new stove in the corner. Elizaveta Shneyderman packs the place with power sculpture and structural paintings; each looks like the best-dressed at the prom, vying for attention with silver frills and batting lashes. The stove? A surly chaperone.
Closing reception + holiday party Sunday, December 11 4:00PM — 6:00PM.
MICROSCOPE GALLERY: DREAMLANDS: EXPANDED
The Whitney’s sprawling exhibition of video work, Dreamlands (which includes 29 male artists, 11 female artists, bombs, cartoons, radical Disney, and a Tilda Swinton that answers your wildest questions) comes to Brooklyn. Microscope Gallery hosts Jennifer West’s installation “Flashlight Filmstrip Projections”, which is as straightforward as it sounds: use your flashlight to project discarded Hollywood film strips, hand-painted 70mm film, and more. Jennifer West appears in person at the Saturday event.
Screening Saturday, December 10 6:00PM — 9:00PM & December 11, 12 1:00PM — 6:00PM.
SAFE GALLERY: FUNDRAISER / FABIENNE LASSERRE + ANNETTE WEHRHAHN
An overwhelming 42 women artists donated work to this sale at Safe Gallery. Following a happy trend in recent fundraising events, every penny will be donated to Planned Parenthood to protect what the zombies are trying to take (ew). Next door, Sam Moyer and Eddie Martinez are raising money for ACLU by selling limited edition artist T-shirts.
Sale Saturday, December 10 4:00PM — 8:00PM, exhibition open through December 18.
