Eat, Drink, And Watch Movies: Nitehawk Cinema Is Coming To Park Slope
After years of rumors swirling around Park Slope’s lone remaining movie theater, The Pavilion, whether it would be shut down, renovated, or turned into a condominium complex, some clarity has finally come forth: the theater will become a Nitehawk Cinema by Fall of 2017.
Nitehawk, which opened its initial location in Williamsburg back in 2011, has been a huge success since its opening, offering full food and bar service in addition to a wide variety of film programming. The Park Slope location, which will be known as “Nitehawk Prospect Park,” will house seven screens, 650 total seats, and, of course, the full, fluid, wide-ranging array of food—including the fun film-based specials. This will be the cinema’s first extension past the Williamsburg location.
According to the New York Times, Matthew Viragh, Nitehawk’s founder, closed on a deal with 188 Prospect Park West L.L.C. to buy The Pavilion for $28 million on August 26th. The group is expected to spend just under $10 million on year-long renovations of the theater, which will close down for good by October.
So, Park Slope moviegoers, in just a little over a year’s time, there will be a great spot in the neighborhood to sit back, have a beer, grub, and hopefully no bed bugs. (based on passed experiences at Nitehawk, that should not be an issue). And only a few months after that projected fall 2017 opening, you know what’s coming out? Oh, yes, that’s right: a brand new Star Wars. I don’t know about all of you, but I can’t think of anything better combination than a brew, a burger and a little bit of escapism to a galaxy far, far, away.
Love you, Nitehawk.
