Watch Jenny Lewis’ New Band Nice As Fuck Make Their Late Night Debut
Incredibly prolific indie rockstar, Jenny Lewis, is back with her newest music project–this one titled Nice As Fuck. Lewis began her career, of course, as Rilo Kiley, then began pursuing a solo career, along with a duo project called Jenny and Johnny with her then boyfriend, Johnathan Rice.
But the old has gone the new has come and Lewis has teamed with two new musical partners: Erika Forster–well known from her work in the band Au Revoir Simone–plays bass for the group, and Tennessee Thomas–who previously performed in the band The Like for the first decade of the 2000s–is on percussion.

In addition to her musical accolades, Thomas has also gathered 50K+ followers on Instagram for her activism and community support with New York-based shop and clubhouse The Deep End Club. (It should come as no surprise given the members’ background that their live debut was at a Bernie Sanders benefit show. But last night they made their late show debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The women took the stage wearing uniform getups–each in white pants, berets, and shirts with the Nice As Fuck logo. (The font is reminiscent of Tennessee Thomas’ Deep End Club merchandise.)
Nice as Fuck have a strong 60s vibe, with the women wearing green jackets with peace logos and surrounding themselves with what appear to be protest signs. The group gave a two song performance of “Door” and “Guns” off of their self titled album.
The group sounds much different than Jenny Lewis’ solo work, the bass and drum styles give the songs an energetic, jumpy sound. The visuals signal protest for a reason–their second song, “Guns,” is targeted at America’s lack of gun control, a topic that grows more pressing every day. Watch the performance below.
