The Recipe: How to Make the Boozy Milkshakes from Oddfellows
The arrival of summer means ice cream season, which—in this writer’s humble opinion—is the most beautiful time of the year. The sun is shining, the East River Ferry is cruising, and European tourists are flooding the streets of Williamsburg, creating long lines at the spots locals love most. While I have a low tolerance for waiting in line, one place where I don’t mind is OddFellows, that bastion of creamy, homemade deliciousness, where the rotating list of flavors might include carrot cake cream cheese, chorizo caramel swirl, matcha, or—my personal favorite—extra virgin olive oil.
Luckily for you line-averse people, Sam Mason, the creative genius behind OddFellows’ quirky flavors, has shared some recipes for boozy milkshakes you can make at home. Inspired by classic cocktails, these indulgent treats each have more or less the same proportions of ice cream, milk, and liquor, though Mason encourages you to tweak them to your liking. No need to splurge on top shelf spirits, as the ice cream will mostly mask the alcohol’s flavor anyway. Mason’s main tip to keep in mind: Start by combining the ingredients for a basic milkshake in a blender, then add the booze at the end. Cheers! ♦
