For the past 31 years, City Parks has given us SummerStage, which, beginning in June, is a summer’s worth of free music, dance, and film presented in parks throughout the entire city. That’s a lot of programming, oofta. Luckily, we are not in charge of that end of it, and just get to reap the benefits of other people’s work by taking in a ton of culture, for free, outside, while it’s warm and gorgeous in New York City.

This year, SummerStage is presenting an exceptional amount of Jazz musicians, in honor of that musical genre’s centennial; a good majority of the Jazz programming will happen at Central Park. Meanwhile, SummerStage Brooklyn hosts 23 show dates of multi-genre, high-end performances in four parks across Kings County. Highlights include Chairlift, Public Enemy, and Lisa Simone Kelly. On the Jazz-themed bill, you can check out trumpeters Theo Croker and Maurice Mobetta Brown, guitarist Marcus Machado, and Grammy winning vocalist, Kendra Foster. See the complete city-wide lineup here, and our Brooklyn entertainment below!

  1. Yeah Summerstage has some good jazz shows and Trouble funk on July 3rd will be the shit!!! But, the overall lineup in central park is awful compared to years past. As usual I’m sure Celebrate Brooklyn will be the place to be. They already have the best opening night by far with Sharon Jones and the Dap kings! Bring on the funk! I’d love to see them do a Prince tribute night. Especially since he graced the prospect park stage a few years back for the encore of the slammin Maceo Parker show. That was truly a momentous occasion and with all the love NY has for Prince it would be perfect for celebrate Brooklyn to honor this tragic loss.
