Talking with Sybil Domond and Dan Lessin about Greenpoint, Up-Cycling Design, and Day Beds

Sybil Domond, who owns the boho-chic shop People of 2morrow, and Dan Lessin, who owns the Williamsburg nightclub Bembe, gut-renovated their Greenpoint townhouse and transformed it into a warm, welcoming home full of color and light. They live on one floor with their five-year-old daughter, dog, and cat, and rent out the bottom floor on Airbnb. After welcoming us in, Sybil answered our Proust-inspired questionnaire.
How long have you lived at your current residence?
Eight years.
What do you love most about your home?
High ceiling, exposed brick, custom wood-framed French style windows.
If you could change one thing about your home, what would it be?
The square footage/size.
What’s the first thing other people notice when they visit?
Wood custom-framed French style windows.
How would you define your design philosophy?
Up-cycling to create a worldly, earthy environment.
What is your most treasured possession?
Choice of expression.
What is your favorite thing to do in your home?
Having dinner parties, and sharing the space with family and friends.
What’s your favorite spot in the house?
The daybed area.
What makes a house a home?
The love we put into it.
What do you love most about your neighborhood?
People in the neighborhood are always creatively expressing themselves.
If you could change one thing about your neighborhood, what would it be?
More diversity.
What’s your happiest memory in your home?
Seeing our daughter grow up in the house we built.
