Brooklyn Office Space and Coworking Provider Opens New Locations in Manhattan
The Yard continues to grow in New York City. Having opened its flagship Brooklyn location overlooking McCarren Park in 2011, The Yard has since expanded to the Lower East Side, the Upper West Side, and Midtown Manhattan. With nearly 100% occupancy, The Yard opened its Herald Square location just a few months ago and is now focused on pre-leasing for its upcoming Flatiron North location at 5th Avenue and 28th Street.
Not only will this brand new location provide workspace for over 100 businesses in the Flatiron neighborhood, but The Yard Flatiron North will also feature a 5,000 sq.ft. dedicated events space with auditorium seating for 100, and networking capacity for nearly triple that, offering a unique turnkey option for corporate events, conferences, performances and parties. The space is a partnership between The Yard and Preview Events and is currently accepting inquires at 246Fifth.nyc
The Yard currently hosts over 500 companies including tech startups working in VR, creative services ranging from design to development, as well as attorneys, accountants, and just about everything in between. Uber built their headquarters at The Yard during their first year in NYC and current members include the Oscar-winning writers of the film Birdman, the 30-person team of Babbel, as well as companies like TalkSpace, DataSift, PINTRILL, and Makr, the last of whom was just acquired by Staples but insisted to keep their offices at The Yard.
Membership at The Yard also includes perks and benefits like deep discounts with UPS, unlimited digital access to NYTimes.com, and special rates with companies like CitiBike, Justworks, Zipcar, and General Assembly. The Yard also regularly hosts members-only events with partners including Molsekine and Samsung.
But really, The Yard is more than a “coworking space.” In fact, only a small percentage of its desks are open coworking. The Yard is primarily private offices. Perhaps a better way to describe The Yard would be something like “office space with hospitality.” Each location has one or two Community Managers who know each of their members by name and are happy to greet guests and clients, or make introductions for potential collaboration.
And while The Yard does not have beer on tap or ping pong tables, each location offers a dedicated entrance to the street so members and their guests never have to wait for an elevator or worry about mail and packages arriving on time. Furthermore, guests don’t have to share meeting space or lounge areas with loud, rambunctious neighbors. One Yard member, having recently left another coworking space for The Yard, caused laughs when asked what the difference was, saying, “That was like undergrad… The Yard is like graduate school.”
