Watch Leon Bridges’ Melancholy And Uplifting “River” Video
Leon Bridges is a young soul singer out of Fort Worth, Texas, who released his debut album Coming Home last summer. The album’s final track is also its best, a melancholy and gospel-indebted song called “River” that is one of the most uplifting things I heard in the year 2015. Today, Bridges has shared the song’s accompanying video. It traces a path of mourning from a decrepit motel room, to families struggling with violence, discordance and pain, a candlelit vigil, and finally, a bizarre church service taking place under the sprinkling of a hose — water as redemption, even if it’s only temporary. It was written and directed by Miles Jay, watch below.
Coming Home is out now via Columbia Records. Get it here.
