The Top 10 Films of 2015: From Hostile NYC Microindies to the Vulnerable Cloud
Amour Fou: Austrian writer-director Jessica Hausner unfurls this stealth comedy, revolving around the 1811 suicide pact between German writer Heinrich von Kleist and Henriette Vogel, in a series of shoebox interiors, the actors staring past each other in the otherworldly fashion of Gertrud. This is a weird and wonderful take on what Young Werther hath wrought—unromantic “love,” unto death, in the Romantic period.
Blackhat: A somewhat disconnected-seeming movie about our vulnerable grid, Michael Mann’s film is, naturally, a digital vision itself, the night skies of DP Stuart Dryburgh glowing like screensavers, the shootouts like isolated on-the-ground thunderstorms. If I had to watch one movie on this list on loop for 24 hours, it’d be Blackhat.
