Why is Louis CK Following the Mayor Around?
Comedian Louis CK isn’t particularly prone to political diatribes in his stand-up routine. He usually sticks to pet topics like parenting and drug use, using his sets as vehicles for social commentary, as opposed to something purely political. So: Why the hell is Louis CK following mayor de Blasio around New York City?
The New York Observer reports that CK was spotted at the back of a New York State Financial Control Board meeting yesterday, quietly taking notes as the mayor spoke about fiscal issues affecting the city. Media in the room were transfixed by the Louis star’s presence as they listened to NYC government officials like Comptroller Scott Stringer talk about the city’s budgetary woes. Some members of the media took to Twitter to express their glee.

The Observer reports that CK is shadowing the mayor for a forthcoming “project in development,” according to City Hall spokesperson, Ishanee Parikh. CK later followed the mayor to an event in Brownsville where he answered a brief question regarding his activities with the mayor, telling the New York Times, “I’m just messing around with something, and we’ll see what happens.”
Although the results of de Blasio and CK’s collaboration might remain unknown for some time, this wasn’t the first time the two have been spotted in public together. Last March, the comedian and the mayor appeared in the Inner Circle Show, an event that sees the mayor team up with comedians in live sketches.
