Get Excited for “Queens of Kings,” a New Web Series on Brooklyn Drag Queens
Brooklyn Pride wraps up this weekend, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until next year to get to watch the borough’s glorious drag stars parade around the city: Sunday marks the YouTube debut of “Queens of Kings,” a new web series that offers an intimate look at local drag divas’ daily lives. Directed by NYC native Nicholas Heller, creator of production group No Your City, each five-minute episode will follow a Brooklyn Queen throughout her day, from mundane, makeup-free errands to evening transformations to glitzy nighttime performances in Williamsburg and Bushwick venues. The trailer, below, suggests it will be a more personal look at the drag lifestyle than what’s offered by polished popular reality shows like “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Featured queens included Merrie Cherry, Charlene, Hamm Samwich, Lucy Balls, Untitled Queen, Misty Meaner and Mocha Lite.
Queens of Kings, Season One premieres Sunday evening, exact time not specified, on Refinery29’s YouTube Channel. Bushwick’s Bizarre Bar will hold a screening party for all six episodes on Monday, June 29th.
