Best Small Plates: Willow
We know some people are down on the small plates trend, but we’re not among them. When done right, a menu that focuses on miniature portions allows diners to sample more food and the chef to better experiment and innovate, thus demonstrating the full range of his or her talents. Such is the case at Willow, where the ample talents of John Poiarkoff (also of The Pines in Gowanus, a perennial favorite of ours) are on clear display. Each night, Willow’s intimate dining room plays host to a steady parade of some of the best bites we’ve ever had. From the luscious chicken liver cannoli to the bright, citrusy fluke crudo, each dish is a delight for the senses, and is beautifully complemented by the smartly curated wine, beer, and cocktail list. Willow pays special attention to sourcing food, both seasonally and locally, and the care that has gone into the menu’s conception is evident with every last bite you take.
