When Meredith Heil [Ed. note: Heil is a regular contributor to bkmag.com] and Hayley Karl started Beerded Ladies, they had one thing in mind: creating a space for craft beer lovers that wasn’t a total “dude-fest.” “I was really interested in craft beer,” says Heil, “But all of the events were really heavy on the testosterone. It was intimidating.” Beerded Ladies event solve that problem; their events are free of pretense, scariness, and gender beer bias.
Although not gender exclusive, Beerded Ladies throws events celebrating the many women in the beer industry. Since BL’s conception in 2013, the ladies have been hosting female-centric brew bashes all over NYC. On Thursday, April 30th, they’ll be hosting a mouthwatering event called Ladies Pint Night hosted by Threes Brewing in Gowanus.
Don’t expect a typical “ladies night” vibe–there won’t be any watered down punches or drink tickets. Instead, enjoy a simple pay-as-you-drink event with beers on tap served by talented women in the beer industry. On the tap list?
Dabble IPA from Sixpoint-served by Heather McReyolds
Anniversary from Radiant Pig, served by Laurisa Milici
White Aphro from Empire, served by Olivia Cerio
Golden Brett from Allagash, served by Kristen Demergian
Additionally, Krista Kilberg of Women’s Beer Society NYC will also be there, along with plenty of other homebrewers (who are bringing samples!) You can also enjoy delicious Mediterranean food from Mimi’s Hummus (try the cauliflower!). Plus, you’re free to roam around the bar, grab a cocktail, then come back for more beer. Sounds like a balanced diet to us.
