Fine, Weather, We Don’t Need You: NYC Hot Sauce Expo Heats Up This Weekend
Well, at least it’s not snowing? That’s pretty much all we have to say about the weather right now. Luckily, the Third Annual NYC Hot Sauce Expo is this weekend, and even though that type of heat still won’t allow us to finally comfortably wear our new pair of shorts outside of our apartment, it will bring a little bit a lot of heat to the weekend.
The two-day festival takes place at Greenpoint’s Brooklyn Expo Center from 10am to to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday, and, in addition to being able to browse and buy hot sauces from more than 40 of the world’s best artisanal hot sauce makers, there will also be contests—spicy contests: Pizza-eating, taco-eating, burrito-eating, and wing-eating contests for those kind-of-brave lovers of spiciness, and a Guinness Book of World Records pepper eating event for the real psychotic fearless spice-lovers. And don’t worry, for all of you cowards, there will be a Stoli Vodka demo both days, which might just give you the liquid courage you need to enter one of the eating contests.
General Admission is only $10, or, you could just decide to go completely all-out, with the $100 VIP ticket which includes: general admission, excess to VIP areas, open bar, food samples, bottle of High River Sauces, issue of Chile Pepper Magazine + 1 Year Subscription, various other gifts, and coat check (which you’ll actually probably need, so). But we’d probably suggest the mid-level ticket for $55, which includes general admission, 5 craft-beer tickets, a bottle of High River Sauces, and a BBQ Sandwich Platter. No matter what you choose, definitely bring Tums.
