Massive Citi Bike Expansion Coming To Williamsburg
Because, in our eternal optimism, we believe that biking days will be here again soon, this is some welcome news for the upcoming summer months: Bike sharing program Citi Bike is going ahead with an enormous expansion effort, which will include 53 new stations in Williamsburg and Brooklyn by the end of the year.
The planned stations, as first reported by The Brooklyn Paper, dot the area from Flushing and Marcy Avenues at the Bushwick-Bed-Stuy border to close to Newtown Creek in Greenpoint. A map provided by Community Board 1 to the paper shows the pretty impressive scope of the new stations, which will dot both neighborhoods in order to ease transportation congestion.
“They were chosen to minimize community impacts and maximize connections to transit and local destinations,” a spokesperson told the paper. More expansions are expected in 2017 to cover Crown Heights, Bed-Stuy, Prospect Heights, Red Hook, Carrooll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Gowanus, and Park Slope.
