MoMA Bans Selfie Sticks, And The Met Might Too
Like true American heroes, the administrators at the Museum of Modern Art have decided to ban selfie sticks. Oh, you don’t know what a selfie stick is? Lucky you: They are the quickly proliferating devices that allow you to better position a phone camera to take a photo of yourself. Yes, now we need special equipment for that. Yes, it is available at the drug store last time I checked.
According to CBS New York, museum officials have banned the devices after determining that they pose hazards to both the works of art that the selfie-takers are ostensibly there to see and their fellow humans. to which I would add they are also gravely injurious to the selfie-takers’ own dignity.
Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum has also banned the devices, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art is also mulling a ban. And you know? It’s probably a good idea.
