Future (feat. Pharrell, Pusha T, and Casino)
Le1f – “Hey”
With a beat so good that it briefly snapped Pharrell out his lame ass voice-of-a-CGI-toucan-or-whatever-the-fuck phase, Future’s “Move That Dope” was the best feel bad track of the year. The dope slinger anthem may be a genre exercise that’s familiar to the point of seeming permanent, but this one had an uncommon relentlessness. A swaggering gay fellow name-dropping Pokemon is the opposite of an old hip-hop trope, but here’s hoping Le1f helps start a new one. Notably, these two tracks make perfect sense in succession, in sound if not subject.
