All-Female Speed Bartending Contest Coming To Williamsburg Sunday
All-female mixology competition Speed Rack is coming to the Music Hall of Williamsburg on Sunday, for those who like their drinks both complicated and quick. In the event, 20 bartenders pit their cocktail-making prowess and overall dexterity against each other through four rounds of competition; the winner will advance to the national round. Unlike other competitions that focus on experimentation, Speed Rack looks at who can execute the classics both quickly and well. Sounds like the kind of bartenders that we’re into, too.
Bartender Ivy MIx started the competition with fellow drink-slinger Lynnette Marrero in 2010. “There was no room for a woman in that scene then,” Mix told the Brooklyn Paper. “I’m not sure if Speed Rack caused this, but now all the best bars have women working behind the bars. The point isn’t who wins but what we’re doing collectively as women. We’re saying ‘we’re here, and you should hire us.’”
Those interested in adding some competitive element to their day drinking can watch the competition live from 3 to 7 pm on Sunday. Tickers are available here.
