Pandora Maps Brooklyn’s Musical Taste: Hair Bands in Greenpoint, Jewish Comedy in Borough Park

As far as informal audio cartography goes, you could do worse than looking to the collective Pandora stations of a neighborhood to get a feel for what everyone is listening to. The site controls 78% of internet radio streaming, so it gives a fiarly good, if not quite perfect, impression of what people are tuning in for.  The results, which the streaming service released this week, rank the most popular genres in several New York City neighborhoods. In Brooklyn, predictably, the results vary widely by neighborhood.

 

In Greenpoint, you can expect to listen to hair metal, and in Borough Park, Jewish Comedy is popular, but so is progressive house music. Below, a breakdown of the data by neighborhood:
