Increased Budget for Parks and Recreation
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced Tuesday that thanks to a $5.2 million budget for 2015, nine Brooklyn parks are getting the star treatment.
The 10% increase from last year will be used for already specified upgrades and repairs. Aside from a multi-million dollar project for Heckscher Playground in Bushwick, the New York Daily News reports other improvements are scheduled for “the eastern edge of Prospect Park, better bus access to Brooklyn Bridge Park, and playground work at Msgr. McGolrick Park in Greenpoint.” The city Parks Department is also spending $1 million more on revamping an empty lot into a turf soccer field and track and another $1 million on replacing the broken blue pavers outside Borough Hall.
