Brooklyn Is Getting Its First Biennial
Because biennials always make everyone happy, Brooklyn is getting one of its own! BRIC Arts Media has curated the exhibition, which will run at the BRIC House from September 20 through December 14.
The BRIC Biennial won’t showcase the work of artists from all of Brooklyn, however—for its first iteration, the exhibition will focus exclusively on 27 early- and mid-career visual artists based in and around Downtown Brooklyn, where the BRIC House is located. Among them are ruby onyinyechi amanze, who creates large-scale works on paper, Scherezade Garcia, who will create an image of the sea out of old copies of the Village Voice, Jenna Spevack, with an audio installation within an outhouse, and abstract painter Vince Contarino. See the full lineup here, and mark your calendar for the opening reception on September 19 from 7 to 9pm.
It appears to be a big fall season for Brooklyn-focused exhibits—the Brooklyn Museum also has one of its own, “Crossing Brooklyn: Art from Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, and Beyond,” which opens October 3.
