Spilled Ink: Brooklyn Bartenders Talk About Their Tattoos

Can you talk about that one that says “Sink or Swim” around the anchor? I like that one a lot.
Sure. It says, “Sink or swim, kid.” Basically, it’s just advice — like something an old man might say. “Sink or swim, kid!” Then this arm [shows left arm] is pretty much all new stuff.
Can I ask about the heart with the name on it?
My younger sister died, so this one’s for her.
Oh, gosh, I’m so sorry. I feel like a jerk for asking. How about the bird next to it?
At all the bars I’ve ever worked, Old Crow has always been really popular, so that’s the reason behind it.
When you see your whole arm, the tattoos fit together like puzzle peices.
Well, I’m just about to get a new one, too, with a bunch of bartender buddies.
Oh, yeah? What’s that one going to be?
A cosmo glass with a skeleton hand holding it around the stem. [laughs] It’s a dumb joke, but we’re actually going through with it. So dumb.
