Brooklyn Heights Cinema May Move Into Former reBar Space
In what is perhaps the best possible outcome of this summer’s riveting (but terrible) multi-chapter reBar saga, in which former owner Jason Stevens was charged with both grand larceny for stealing $150,000 in wedding deposits and $27,000 in cash and now faces three to ten years in prison and a lifetime ban from the restaurant industry, Brooklyn Heights Cinema is in talks to rent the space. It’s just like a fairy tale!
We’ll admit, we were a bit concerned when the theater announced yesterday that it would be closing its doors at the end of August, especially since it was so soon after the happy news that a successful $30,000 Kickstarter campaign would give Brooklyn Heights Cinema the upgrade it deserved. But last night, the Daily News reported that owner Kenn Lowy is in discussions with reBar’s site owner to rent the 5,000-square-foot space by late September or early October. And even though reBar is located in DUMBO, the theater’s name will remain the same. Popcorn all round!
