Brooklyn’s 10 Best Beach Eats (Ok, Queens and Long Island Too)
Jones Beach (at Ocean Parkway)
Considering what a commitment of time it is to get to Jones Beach, the last thing you want to do is comb Long Island for decent food once you’re there, or worse, lug a cooler with three square meals in it onto the LIRR. Happily, Jones has seriously upped its concessions game this year, inviting SmorgasBar to debut its own, six vendor-strong tent. And our personal Smorg fave, Handsome Hank’s Fish Hut, is among them (incidentally, their fried whiting tastes even better when enjoyed along the seashore, as opposed to a parking lot astride the East River). And the artisanal sausages sold by Fleisher’s, Park Slope’s pasture-raised meats mecca, puts the dirty water wieners previously peddled on the boardwalk to shame.
