Bushwick’s Controversial Colony 1209 Is Sixty Percent Leased
Well, it turns out people will be living in that boxy, blue-steel eyesore off the corner of Bushwick and Dekalb Avenues after all—Bushwick’s Colony 1209 is now under new ownership from a previous false start in October. Aptsandlofts, which handles Colony’s marketing, says the building is 60 percent full, according to Curbed.
The 127 units range in price from $1,875 (for a studio!), a one bedroom for $2,200, and two bedrooms from $2,700 to $3,100, some with outdoor space. And for the price tag, the denizens of Colony 1209 get a whole lot of amenities. The complex features a mod, space-age lobby complete with those dang hanging bubble chairs that I’ve never seen anyone use, a game room and screening room, a rooftop life-size chess board, a gym, a parking lot, a “speakeasy,” and a shared backyard.
Only time will tell how the big-money new kid on the block fares. The surrounding area is still relatively untouched otherwise, though we’ll bet a slew of posh-yet-aesthetically-down-home businesses will pop up in due time.
