5 Questions With: Alan Del Rio Ortiz
5 Questions With is a new series spotlighting some of Brooklyn’s most exciting and influential creatives.
Alan Del Rio Ortiz makes (amazing) music videos. Most recently, you’d have seen his work backgrounding the new track from School of Seven Bells, “I Got Knocked Down (But I’ll Get Up),” but you’d also recognize it if you’ve watched this cool Blood Orange video, this series of behind-the-scenes footage from St. Vincent’s tour a few years ago, or this game of suck-and-blow with Solange. He also takes photos. He may spend a lot of time on the road, but all of his favorite haunts are still in Brooklyn. Check ’em out after the jump.
Name: Alan Del Rio Ortiz
Neighborhood: Williamsburg
Record you’ve probably listened to most in your life? I’ve listened to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins so much it’s crazy. I still love it.
Brooklyn-based band to watch? I love the boys in Regal Degal. I hope they live forever.
Favorite place to go see a show? Le Poisson Rouge is one of the few places I still enjoy going to. They bring in all types of acts and they change the space around accordingly. The shows I have seen there have all been really special and have sounded amazing.
Favorite Brooklyn bar? It’s not exactly a bar, but Diner is one of my favorite places to go and have a drink. I’ve been going there for years and I’ve made a lot of memories there. The waitstaff must think i’m insane with what they’ve witnessed. My tips there are based on guilt.
Go-to drink? A good tequila, neat. I’m a straight spirits guy.
