See A Live Version Of Pac-Man In DUMBO This Friday
In honor of all things old school, DUMBO will be transformed into a live-action game of Pac-Man this Friday. It’s something you probably won’t want to miss.
The live game is being run by PacManhattan, which started out as a NYU student project in 2004, and has since become a great public art project. And in honor of the organization’s 10 year anniversary, the game is coming to Brooklyn for the first time.
The set up is pretty simple: one person dresses up like Pac-Man and four people dress as Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde and chase our yellow hero. And like the game, the person playing Pac-Man will know where the ghosts are, but they ghosts will not know where Pac-Man is. Meanwhile, each Pac-Man and each ghost will have a control team working behind the scenes to benefit their player. All games will take 30 minutes.
But what about the “public art” part? Well, we regular people are the ones who get to play Pac-Man and the ghosts. All you have to do is be 16+ and sign up. As of this posting, there were still spots available for 3pm to 3:30 pm session on Friday, but that may have changed. Meanwhile, the general public is invited to observe and cheer on whoever they please.
Head to 30 John Street from 3 pm to 5:30 pm to check any one of the six sessions out.
