The Righteous Young – TBA (via Harvest Records)
Perhaps best known for guesting in Major Lazer’s “Keep Cool” and Flo Rider’s “Sugar,” Wynter Gordon and her new five-piece band The Righteous Young have slowly been turning their back on blockbuster club hits, culminating in an elegantly powerful new sound to make her mark on the indie world. Patches of single “Everything Burns” simmer in folk-pop, but her voice–a mixture of anger and grace–steals the show. Elsewhere we hear it glide over string arrangements in what seems like a continuous climb upwards, enlisting the likes of A$AP Ferg to twist in sharp-tongued rhymes. Because she also really wants you to dance. Oh, hey, look at that: She plays Glasslands tonight.
