Now Open: Free Weekend Ferry From Red Hook To Manhattan
The Red Hook summer ferry is back! After a not-so-brief hiatus, residents of the semi-isolated neighborhood now have completely free access to Manhattan (and Manhattanites to Red Hook) as of this past weekend.
Via Brooklyn Paper: After a push from locals and representatives, the aptly-named Destination Red Hook Ferry is back fro its sixth year, running between Red Hook’s Ikea and Fairway Market and Manhattan’s Pier 11 (FDR Dr. and Gouverneur Ln.) through Labor Day.
Every weekend, the water taxis will start running at 11:45 am, coming every 25 minutes after that, and finish operating at 9:30 pm when the last ferry leaves Pier 11 for Red Hook.
It all sounds like the perfect set-up for brave Manhattanites seeking a nice day trip to the increasingly popular Red Hook area. Feel free to check out our Summer Weekend Guide to the neighborhood for a few tips on how to get the most out of the visit.
