Body Found Near Greenpoint’s India Street Pier
The body of Steven Middleton, a 21-year-old who went missing last week after deciding to take a drunken swim in the East River with his friends, was recovered by the waterfront in Greenpoint .
According to the Post, a body fitting Middleton’s description washed up near the India Street pier at approximately 8:30 pm on Monday night.
Per previous reports, Middleton and his friends took to the East River around 5:30 am on Thursday, June 26, after a night spent celebrating a friend’s graduation. After eating at a Bushwick diner, they found a hole in a fence below the Williamsburg Bridge and a nearby ladder gave them access to the river. Middleton, a resident of Bed-Stuy and junior at Brooklyn’s Medgar Evers College, was immediately caught up in the waterway’s swift current and presumed drowned by his friends.
The NYPD began conducting an extensive search for Middleton the same day, but didn’t turn up any evidence until last night. Investigators will use dental records to confirm the body’s identity.
